Building strong teams

At Medisoft, we prioritise maintaining an aligned and engaged culture by staying connected through team events, such as games nights, All-Company Meetings (ACMs) and an annual team tour. We typically hold quarterly ACMs in-person to introduce new team members and provide open updates about the business: we find that these sessions boost productivity and motivation by bringing everyone closer together and increasing awareness of Medisoft’s vision and goals. We believe that it is really important that all colleagues understand where we stand against our objectives so that we all pull in the same direction in order to achieve them.

Sharing our knowledge

Putting knowledge and information into everyone’s hands helps them connect, perform better and become more effective as professionals. We value the power of knowledge sharing: we do this through individual training plans, supplemented by internal ‘lunch and learn sessions’, departmental ‘show and tell’ meetings and an annual training week where colleagues from across the business pause their typical day to day role, to learn even more about our products and the clinical side of ophthalmology. The fact that our team have such deep knowledge is truly a differentiator for Medisoft. We like to share our skills, expertise and knowledge to ensure that our EMR is adding as much value to healthcare organisations as possible, and to deepen our collaboration with customers.

Nurturing diverse talent

We have a very diverse team with all colleagues encouraged to bring their own individuality into the fold. Everyone brings their own knowledge, skills and experience which we believe helps the business to solve problems in different, innovative ways.  We value continual learning and help our team strive to develop new skills, giving you the opportunity to develop a long, successful career with us.

Don’t take our word for it!
Here’s what some of our team think about working for Medisoft:

Tracy Archibald,
Software Tester

Can you tell us a little about yourself?

“My career started in administration work. I then fell into Dental Nursing but after a few years decided I wanted more of a challenge and landed on testing. In my spare time I teach roller skating and love all things horror related.”

What is your current role at Medisoft?

“I work along side the analysts and developers to enhance and develop MediSIGHT for our customers. As a tester we ensure that the software is at a high standard. This involves getting into the minds of the user and how they would use our software.”

What inspired you to join the team here?

“I came from a medical background, which I think gave me an insight into how the product is used by the end user. I also liked the fact the company is still growing and becoming stronger. The product is great and has so many different aspects and is always improving which means I learn something new every day.”

What do you love most about your job?

“Interacting with the people, been able to support other in the company as well as been able to get support from people when needed. Every day is different and I’m always learning new aspects of the system which makes me motivated to enhance Medisight further for the patients and users.”

How have you impacted the team’s success?

“As a tester I ensure that the product is tested to a high standard giving the end user the best experience when using our product. Finding bugs early and feeding this back helps the team to get the new features into the system on time.
How has your role evolved since you joined the team? Since starting I have learnt so much and have then shared this knowledge with other through mentoring. I have a more responsibility and a great understanding of testing.”

Where do you think you can have the biggest impact in your role?

“Ensure the product is of a high quality, helps the surgeon to do their job and in turn gets the patients the best treatment for them.

Would you recommend Medisoft to others and (if yes!) why? Yes – It is a friendly supportive environment with a great social aspect too. There is always someone there to help or support. There is also room to progress in the company if that is what people want to do.”

Joe Bache,
Training Manager

Can you tell us a little about yourself?

“I’m a thirty-something, husband and dad, and Leeds United fan, who’s been working in training and learning and development roles at tech companies for about 10 years.”

What is your current role at Medisoft?

“I’m responsible for the training material we develop and provide to our customers. I also work with the wider training team to organise and deliver training, spend time with customers on site when they go live with our system, and arrange and deliver internal training for the team.”

What inspired you to join the team here?

“Medisoft have a presence in hospitals across the NHS and beyond and are making a real difference to patient care in ophthalmology. Their story resonated with me – started by a leading ophthalmologist and his brother and still a small(ish) tight-knit team – I felt right from the start that I could help the team deliver great outcomes for our customers, and ultimately patients.”

What do you love most about your job?

“I’m in a privileged position – I get to work with colleagues across the business and regularly speak to a whole range of customers and users. I really love the variety and getting to see both sides of our story – what we do internally and what that means for our customers.”

How have you impacted the team’s success?

“Since I’ve joined, I’ve created and updated a whole range of training material and helped deliver training to hundreds of customers. A fundamental part of my role is learning as much about our product and about ophthalmology as I can; I’d like to think that as time goes on, I’m also helping the team to learn too.”

How has your role evolved since you joined the team?
“Training content and delivery is still my day to day, but I also get the chance to work with other areas of the business. I’ve had more exposure to our wider team in Europe and have been involved in working with prospective customers which I’ve really enjoyed.”

Where do you think you can have the biggest impact in your role?

“If we educate our customers as best we can, we give them the best chance to go on to use our software to its fullest potential and deliver efficient, effective patient care. We’re planning to launch a new online training platform for our customers which will give them on-demand education, further bolstering our goal of educating as effectively as we can.”

Would you recommend Medisoft to others and (if yes!) why?

“Absolutely – the team is a brilliant, bright, friendly bunch. Our product is fantastic and is making a real difference in patients’ eye health. Plus, Medisoft is a great place to work – as I write, for example, I’ve only been back in the country for 4 days after an action-packed 3-day team tour in Paris!”

David Coleman

David Coleman,
Head of Training and Customer Services

Can you tell us a little about yourself?

“I’m a married father of two fairly grown up children (16 & 19) with one now at Uni. I support Liverpool FC and coach my sons football team for my sins.”

What is your current role at Medisoft?

“I have a really varied role here. I manage the training team and help steer the direction of our training offering, but I also work with our biggest customer as their main point of contact. I’m also involved with our Marketing delivering Product Literature.”

What inspired you to join the team here?

“I’ve always worked in software apart from during the pandemic where I had a role with a private ophthalmology surgery provider. I had a friend at Medisoft who spoke very highly of the company and it was ideal to combine my software experience with my new-found Ophthalmology knowledge.”

What do you love most about your job?

“Wow, there’s lots honestly. I love the variety of my role and how autonomous I can be. I also love my team and the relationships we’ve built together.”

How have you impacted the team’s success?

“I think I’ve brought my own personality, varied experience and communication style to the business which, I hope, has had a small part in our success.”

How has your role evolved since you joined the team?

“This was a new role when I joined, so it had to evolve really. I worked really closely with my director to define my role and work where I am needed most in the business.”

Where do you think you can have the biggest impact in your role?

“Creating a new Training Team from scratch has had a big impact on the business, giving everyone at Medisoft a focus for their training needs.”

Would you recommend Medisoft to others and (if yes!) why?

“100% and I do, often. The culture at Medisoft is very fair you really do feel valued. It’s got a family feel to the business which I first experienced in my very first company (a long time ago). I’ve searched for that feeling ever since and have finally found it at Medisoft!”

David Coleman

Mike Dyne,
Data Projects Development Lead

Can you tell us a little about yourself?
“Dad, partner, geek. Mostly in that order!”

What is your current role at Medisoft?
“ETL pipelines developer is probably the most succinct was to describe most of my role. Data wrangler wouldn’t be far off either. I develop the migration tool, instance merge tool, anonymisation tools and do a whole heap of other SQL related work that doesn’t really fit the remit of application developer or Tech-Ops.”

What inspired you to join the team here?

“I joined because I wanted to become a BI developer. Medisoft were advertising a junior role and having spent some time researching them and going for an interview, I was sold on the mission and the vision of the company.”

What do you love most about your job?

“Anything difficult really. I find that coming up with a performant, easy to maintain solution to a complex problem most satisfying.”

How have you impacted the team’s success?

“Whilst I was in the BI team I built the majority of the Audit Suite for mediSIGHT. I was able to provide more functionality and it performed better than the Audit Suite for Medisoft Ophthalmology (our legacy product) with similar datasets which I’m very proud of.

In the Special Projects team I have implemented a lot of processes including the use of Azure DevOps to record everything, and Git for version control. I’ve improved the performance of the migration tooling and have created a lot of technical documentation for it as well as several other products.”

How has your role evolved since you joined the team?

“Well, I started off as a junior BI Developer, got promoted to a mid-level BI developer, and now I’m the lead developer of another team. I’d say that the biggest change is who relies on me and my expertise now. I speak to people in most departments these days about SQL, wrangling data, or anything else database related.”

Where do you think you can have the biggest impact in your role?

“This was more obvious in the BI team – I built tools which meant that clinicians could understand their performance in surgeries and understand the outcomes for their patients. Through rigorous auditing of their work, clinicians have been able to identify weaker points of a service and improve patient outcomes.

In my current role, the biggest impact I can make is by producing tools that are easy to work with for the Tech-Ops team. This includes simple implementation of the tooling, well written documentation, support for when issues do arrive (be it bugs or data in an interesting state), and tooling which is performant so they’re not having to wait around for too long whilst a process is running.”

Would you recommend Medisoft to others and (if yes!) why?

“Yeah, I would. I’ve been here 8 years now, and there are a few important things which have always been true for me:

  • The mission to make Ophthalmology within the NHS (and further afield) by providing the best software possible has always felt like a worthwhile cause.
  • When an issue arises, the culture is focussed around fixing the issue and learning from it, rather than attributing blame.
  • The staff have always been good people capable of doing a good job.”

Tom Gilbert
Software implementation engineer

Can you tell us a little about yourself?

“I enjoy cycling, working on various electronics projects, chilling out with my numerous video game consoles, both new and retro. I’ve also recently taken up kayaking and have dabbled in some boxing as well.”

What is your current role at Medisoft?

“I work in the technical operations team as a software implementation engineer, and I’ve been at Medisoft since 2021.”

What inspired you to join the team here?

“I felt like Medisoft would be a great fit for me. I’ve worked on and off in the industry for over 10 years and thoroughly enjoy the combination of working in IT, which satisfies my technical mind and Healthcare which I feel is a very worthwhile and rewarding industry to work in.”

What do you love most about your job?

“I’m happiest when I’m engaged in my work so the fact that my days at Medisoft are constantly varied and challenging keeps me on my toes. I often deal with customers directly and find it very rewarding to do so as I get to see the real impact our software makes on their lives.”

How have you impacted the team’s success?

“By continuing to improve our internal processes, streamlining our methods for deploying software upgrades and ensuring that anyone coming into the team can perform our day-to-day tasks with ease.”

How has your role evolved since you joined the team?

“My role is constantly changing, whereas I started off doing routine upgrades, I am now performing more complicated pieces of work for example full system migrations from our legacy product. I also deal much more closely with customers than I did to start with and am sometimes required to join calls for large pieces of project work.”

Where do you think you can have the biggest impact in your role?

“In the work I do to help our customers, be it upgrading their systems to the latest version of mediSIGHT or helping them get integrations with medical devices and third-party patient systems in place. Without the work I do customers would not be able to benefit from the improvements we make to our product.”

Would you recommend Medisoft to others and (if yes!) why?

“For anyone thinking of joining the Medisoft team I would say go for it! There’s a real opportunity for growth and you can take it as far as you want, with cross team learning just a quick chat away. We have a good social side here as well, both unofficial and official with yearly “Medisoft Tours” being a standout benefit to working at here. 6+”

Leah King,
Product Manager

Can you tell us a little about yourself?

“I moved to Leeds from Kent six years ago and have never looked back. I love the lively tech scene in Leeds, and the craft beer scene too! I’m an avid fan of board games and put on games nights after work every month or so.”

What is your current role at Medisoft?

“My role is pretty broad – I work on gathering requirements, designing new features and maintaining the product backlog. I oversee product development in one of the two key development teams for our main product, mediSIGHT. Together with the other Product Manager and our Product Director, I help define and update the product roadmap, responding to new and changing demands as they arise.”

What inspired you to join the team here?

“I had worked in a healthcare tech company before and was quite keen to get back into that domain. I happened to bump into an analyst at Medisoft who was a friend of a friend, and we talked at great length about what working at Medisoft was like. It sounded like exactly what I was looking for and after meeting my new line manager and the company’s founder at the interview, I knew it would be a good fit.”

What do you love most about your job?

“I love that I’m always learning new things. I find ophthalmology really fascinating and love that I have the opportunity to learn about it directly in clinic, from some of the leading clinicians in the field. It’s also a pleasure to see the tangible difference our product makes to patient care.”

How have you impacted the team’s success?
“I’ve worked on some extensive new features and modules since joining the company, which have had a huge impact on adoption of the product. I’m particularly proud of the orthoptics module and the extensive user engagement that I led to ensure that what we delivered met user needs and expectations.”

How has your role evolved since you joined the team?

“When I first joined, I was a Clinical Systems Analyst, spending the majority of my time on specifying new features and working closely with the developers and testers in sprints. I still spend some of my time on this work, but now there are two more analysts on the team I can dedicate more of my time to working on the roadmap and longer-term delivery strategy.”

Where do you think you can have the biggest impact in your role?

“Deciding what does or does not go on the product roadmap has a huge impact on the business and our users. It’s tough to get it right but our focus on data-driven decisions and our close relationships with our users make it a challenge we (hopefully, most of the time) rise to.”

Would you recommend Medisoft to others and (if yes!) why?

“I would recommend Medisoft to anyone who wants to do work that is both engaging and worthwhile. Not only is our work important, but the people who work here are all really supportive, understanding and helpful. Everyone wants to do their best and help each other out, which makes such a huge difference to my daily experience working here.”
