MEDICAL RETINA MODULE

The medical retina module is designed to meet the needs of collection of data for diabetic retinopathy and age-related macular degeneration but is capable of being used for all aspects of the medical retina sub-specialty.

With respect to diabetic retinopathy, the hierarchical drop down menus cover the ETDRS (American study) grading systems with the option to use alternate grading systems. Other related or coexisting pathology is entered as with other subspecialties. The system defaults to the values recorded at the previous visit, with just the need to reconfirm each entry, thus providing accurate and minimal data entry. Whenever data is automatically imported from elsewhere it is in a different colour to indicate its origin to the user.

Digital photographic or fluorescein angiographic information may be linked to a particular patient's file, as well as brief sketches to illustrate particular details.

Treatment information can be logged with a choice of laser type, lens type and power settings, and exposure time. Other treatment such as that of coexisting cataract, glaucoma and retinal detachment may also be entered. A summary sheet displaying systemic parameters and treatment summary for each eye can be displayed, as with all subspecialties.

There are extensive audit capabilities including treatment parameters, comparing outcome to ETDRS results and correcting for glucose levels and type of diabetes.
