AMD
New services to provide anti-VEGF intravitreal injection treatments for wet age-related macular degeneration (AMD) are being established at hospitals throughout the world. The patients need to be followed up frequently (about once every 4 to 6 weeks) and about 5 to 6 intravitreal injection treatments per year are typically given.
If left as a paper-based process no audit of access to the service, delivery of the service or of the outcome of care will be possible. Medisoft's medical retina module makes audit of all aspects of the AMD care pathway auditable at the click of a button. As well as collecting the full history, examination and diagnoses of the patient and the details of treatments administered, the system stores relevant data from OCT machines and fluorescein angiography.
Commissioners of care will be able to instantly identify the numbers of patients and number of treatments required, and monitor the impact of different inclusion criteria such as visual acuity thresholds, 1st /2nd eye restrictions and lesion type.
Medisoft's medical retina module also vastly improves the efficiency of care as letters are automatically generated and data is available at anytime in any location on the hospital network.
The Medisoft medical retina module has been delivering this AMD data for over one year in the private sector in the UK and is thus a tried and tested solution.
The Royal College of Ophthalmologists has recommended collection of an AMD dataset in its commissioning guidelines. Medisoft has helped define this dataset.
